Cinco de Mayo falls on a Monday this year and many people will start the celebration early and keep going and going and going... If you party hard into the night, you might become quite drained and require a charge. Some say lots of fluids and a big plate of huevos rancheros will cure what ails you. Like humans, vehicles can become drained as well. In this Real Fix the vehicle’s battery continues to drain down overnight. Use this Real Fix to quickly energize that Cadillac in your bay and get prepared for the festivities.

Parasitic Draw, Adjusted Trunk Latch
The customer states the vehicle battery drains down overnight.
Confirmed the customer concern and found the battery had a low state of charge. Recharged the battery, performed a battery load test and found no faults. Performed an alternator load test and found no faults. Used a lab scope with an amp probe, connected the amp probe to the negative battery cable and found a 2 amp draw. Removed fuses and relays until the draw went away. Found that when the pull down fuse was removed, the draw went away. Performed an inspection of the trunk lid switch and found when the trunk was closed the trunk lid switch was not making contact with the striker. This caused the trunk light to stay on. Performed an inspection and found the trunk latch was misaligned.
Adjusted the trunk latch, performed a road test and verified the vehicle operated properly. The customer's concern did not return.
