Safety First

A vehicle must go through many safety precautions before allowing the driver to shift into gear. One of the latest precautions is locking the gear selector when the vehicle doors are open. Today’s Real Fix of the Day is an example of this system.

Transmission Does Not Shift, Replaced Right Sliding Door Sensor

The customer states the transmission does not shift out of park. The customer also states the engine starts and runs without a problem.

Verified the customer’s concern and found the transmission did not shift out of park. Connected a scan tool and monitored live data for the body system. Found the right sliding door sensor reported the door was open when the door was closed. A multi-meter was used to test for power and ground at the right sliding door sensor. Both power and ground were found at the right sliding door sensor, which indicated the right sliding door sensor was faulty.

Replaced the right sliding door sensor, performed a road test and verified the vehicle operated properly.
