FAQs Regarding New Tool Idea Submissions

Will Snap-on share the cost of patenting my idea?
No. You must bear the cost of patenting your idea since you are the one who will have rights to that idea under the patent laws of the United States. If Snap-on modifies your idea such that it will be uniquely different than your original idea, Snap-on has the option to patent the modified idea.

Will Snap-on compensate me for my idea?
If Snap-on uses your unpatented idea on production products and Snap-on is not aware of the idea prior to your submission, you will receive up to $2,000 in cash and a sample of the product. If Snap-on uses your patented idea on production products, an agreement can be negotiated. Refer to Snap-on's Conditions for Product Idea Consideration for more details.

Can I submit an idea that some one else came up with?
It is not recommended.
